JLPT Level: N5
Meanings

Direct object marker

Marks the object of a verb

Indicates what is being acted upon

Usage

Noun + を + Verb

Explanation
を is the direct object particle. It points to the thing that the action of the verb is performed on. It always comes after the object noun and before the verb. It helps you connect what you’re talking about with the action you’re describing. In everyday speech, you’ll see it in simple sentences like eating, seeing, reading, or opening something. Note that the same noun can appear with different verbs, but the particle stays attached to the noun that is the object of the action.
