Explanation
～という理由で is used to explain the reason or justification for an action or decision. The thing before という理由で states the reason in quotes (either a noun phrase or a plain clause), and the main verb expresses what happened because of that reason. It is relatively formal and often found in written language or more careful speech. The noun before という理由で can be any reason described as a fact or belief, and the clause before という理由で can describe an event, situation, or opinion. When the reason is a factual claim (e.g., someone’s action or state), という理由で connects it to the consequence.
彼が欠席したという理由で、試験は延期された。
かれがけっせきしたというりゆうで、しけんはえんきされた。
The exam was postponed for the reason that he was absent.
天候が悪いという理由で、イベントは中止になった。
てんこうがわるいというりゆうで、イベントはちゅうしになった。
Because the weather was bad, the event was canceled.
