About this pattern
Explanation
する is a very common light verb that turns many nouns into verbs. It’s used when describing activities, chores, plans, and actions that don’t have their own dedicated verb. In many cases you simply attach する to a noun (勉強する, 仕事をする), and in conversation it uses polite forms (します, しました, しています). It also serves as the general “to do” verb in many fixed expressions. Note that some nouns pair with をする (like 掃除をする, 運動をする) to explicitly mark the action.
