About this pattern
Explanation
The particle が is used as a conjunction to contrast two statements. It softens the clash between the two parts and is more polite and natural in everyday conversation than しかし. It often appears at the end of the first clause before presenting the contrasting information in the second clause. It can connect two independent clauses or link a subject to a following description. Unlike しかし, が emphasizes the contrast more subtly and frequently occurs in written and spoken Japanese.
