Explanation
その is a demonstrative determiner meaning “that” and is used for items or ideas understood by both speaker and listener. It points to something close to the listener or something previously referenced in the conversation. It is less distant than あの and less immediate than この. Use その before a noun to specify a particular object or concept in context.

そのほんをよみました。
I read that book.
