Explanation
以上 marks a condition or premise and connects it to a consequence or obligation. It often sounds formal or decisive. Use it after a verb in its plain form or after a noun/na-adjective to mean “as long as / since / now that / if.” It conveys a sense that the speaker’s stance follows from what precedes and that what follows is a natural outcome or required action.
約束を守る以上、遅刻してはいけない。
やくそくをまもるいじょう、ちこくしてはいけない。
As you have promised to keep your word, you must not be late.
学生である以上、責任を持って行動すべきだ。
がくせいであるいじょう、せきにんをもってこうどうすべきだ。
