Explanation

なおす is used when you redo or correct something after realizing it’s wrong, or when you repair something to bring it back to proper condition. It emphasizes the action of making it right again—either by revising a task/work, correcting a mistake, or physically repairing an object. In everyday use, it often appears in contexts like editing a document, correcting errors, or fixing a broken item. Note that for completing a task again from the start (a full restart), Japanese often uses やり直す, 書き直す, or 作り直す, but なおす focuses on correction or repair within the current item or effort.

提出したレポートの誤りを見つけたので、原稿を直してから再提出した。

ていしゅつしたレポートのあやまりをみつけたので、げんこうをなおしてからさいていしゅつした。
