ていく
JLPT Level: N4
Meanings
to progress into doing something
to go on with a action over time
to start doing and continue into the future
to move away from the present toward the future
Usage
V-ていく
Adj-ていく
Noun + でいく? (less common)
Explanation
The pattern ていく attaches to the て-form of a verb (or other compatible forms) to show that an action or change will continue from the present into the future, or that movement/transition happens away from the speaker. It often conveys a sense of gradual change, ongoing effort, or progression. It contrasts with てくる, which focuses more on actions moving toward the present or toward the speaker.
